Going out
Welcome to Saturday! As per the schedule (I figure I should adhere to it for at least a few days before ignoring it completely), today I'm going to be talking about men's fashion. And what better way to start talking about a subject than with a giant party? Here's how to dress for a night out that will impress everyone:
Step One: Denim. The trouser has a place in the fashionable man's wardrobe, but, it is not for a night out on the town. And, a nice pair of dark-wash denim is going to look just as, if not more, sophisticated. The key to pulling these jeans off is to ensure that they are dark, un-embellished, and well-fitted. The baggy jean is a thing of the past and adolescent years. We've grown up now and we need our jeans to reflect this. And you don't want your jeans to reflect like a traffic cone; a simple, um-embellished, un-bedazzled, pair is the better choice.
The wonderful thing about wearing denim out is that it is still that rugged material we've all grown to love and it can be less expensive than a pair of trousers. However, for a good quality pair of jeans avoid Walmart. You can get great quality jeans for around $50.00 at most clothing stores, But, I prefer Gap because they are plain and have a wonderful fit selection. And when buying jeans, ALWAYS try them on in the store and ask for opinions from the employees - also check to see if they shrink or stretch at all.
Another note about dark-wash denim, always follow the manufacturer's wash instructions. If you're going to spend $50 on a pair of jeans, help make them last. For most jeans that means wash cold, inside-out and dry on low. If they don't say to wash inside-out, go ahead and do this anyway - it helps preserve the color of the wash.
Step Two: Accessories. Depending on your style, the shoes, watch, belt, and any other accoutrements will vary. Remember, fashion is about self-expression just as much as any other art. So wear what expresses yourself. If that's a pair of sneakers, rock 'em. But make sure they're not frayed and worn. A pair of worn-out sneakers has it's place in your wardrobe, but for going out for a nice night, make sure you look nice. It's pretty simple. Oh, and if you're going out in a pair of loafers, don't bother matching your black loafers with a black belt. This spring is about breaking rules and still looking good.
I do have to say, though, a nice pair of black dress shoes with the dark jeans is incredibly sharp. But you may be thinking it's too dark: dark jeans, dark belt and shoes - I'm not going to a funeral! And yes, that's true, but with this bottom base you can wear practically anything up top and still look amazing.
Alright, that's enough for the first installment of going-out for men. Look for the next one where I'll discuss the multitude of styles you can wear on top of this look. And trust me, there's a ton. I hope this was helpful and feel free to leave any comments below and I'll try to answer them in the next post.
À demain,
Tobais
